Geographic position

The spa is located in the central part of Prahova County, close to the alpine zone between Prahova and Teleajen valleys, surrounded by forests of oaks and fruit trees, 44km far from Ploiesti.

Historical information

Slanic Prahova was documentary attested in 1532. The second attestation dates from 1685, when the sword bearer Mihai Cantacuzino bought Slanic Estate to open the salt mines.

In 1868, the ruler Carol visited Slanic and the Salt Mountain. Amedeo Preziosi painted the princely suite welcome. The paining is exhibited at Peles Museum in Sinaia.


Due to the sub-alpine climate, the summers are hot and the winters are mild. The average annual temperature is 19 C.

Mineral resources content

The chemical analysis of the 7 salty lakes leads to the following water content: salt (80-275 g/l) and iron scale (Red Bath). The sapropelic mud contains mineral substances (chlorine, bromine, nitrates, sulfates, carbonates, bicarbonates, calcium, magnesium, iron) and organic substances.

The Green Mountain: volcanic rock green-colored especially when it rains (natural preserve).

Valenii de Munte: Cheia Monastery (the 17th century), Suzana Monastery, Zamfira Monastery, Nicolae Iorga Museum;

Câmpina: Nicolae Grigorescu Museum, the creation place of the painter Grigorescu, museum where 100 pictures from different periods (Barbizon, Independence War, the White Period) are exhibited; Iulia Hasdeu Castle, built by B. Petriceicu Hasdeu in his daughter memoriam, 1894-1896. The castle was built after the project presented at his meeting with Iulia`s Spirit;

Sinaia: Peles Museum built by King Carol I as a summer royal residence, on Peles Valley, in 1883.The castle is built in German Renascence style, with rococo, baroque and mauro-hyspanic elements. From 1914, the castle became a museum; Sinaia Monastery, built by Mihai Cantacuzino in 1695; Bucegi Museum offers a complete image of all the flora and fauna from Bucegi Mountains; "George Enescu" Museum is the building where the young man Yehudi Menuhin improved his talent of playing the violin, together with his teacher, in 1927; Sinaia Casino was built after the model of Monte Carlo Casino, in 1921;
