Geographic position

The spa is located at 802m altitudes, in the north side of Romania, at Dorna and Bistrita rivers` junction, in Dorna depression, 40km far from Câmpulung Moldovenesc, 110km far from Suceava, 83km far from Bistrita.

Natural curative factors

Hypo tonic or hypersonic, carbogaseous, chlorosodic, bicarbonated mineral waters; mofettes; fortifying and stimulating climate.

Mofetes of high purity and CO2 concentration.

Peat mud from Poiana Stampei, highly efficient in therapeutic package and baths.

Sulphur mineral waters for aerosol inhalations.

Historic information

The spa's documentary attestation dates from the 16th century. The local mineral waters became famous due to their curative value, after 1800. The first balneary establishment was built in 1845. In 1862 the scientists made the first chemical analysis of those mineral waters. At the beginning of the 20th century, 5000 accommodation places were at tourists` disposal in Vatra Dornei. Some hotels have their own treatment basis.


The climate is that of a depression between mountains, with cool summers and cold winters. The annual average temperature is 5.2 C. The annual air humidity is over 84%. The annual average of the rainfalls quantity is 670-800mm, abundant from May until August.
